Add one more day if you live anywhere else in the world like Australia or Egypt. To be clear you can order both drives at the same time.Ī restore of 14 TBytes will take a couple of days to prepare, then 24 hours on the FedEx airplane/truck to you if you live in the United States. Each one is 8 TBytes, so you would need to select half your data for each one, and receive 2 drives, and return 2 drives. One of the ways to restore is order a USB drive with all your data. This disappears to be less than 1% of the whole time spent transmitting files up around 1 MByte files. There is one connection per file, so it a 1 byte file requires the same setup and tear down that a 100 MByte file requires. The reason small files are slower is that Backblaze uploads over HTTPS, and there is a fixed setup and tear down cost to HTTPS connections. ![]() ![]() You will not see full Gigabit speeds for at least 24 hours, maybe 48. And small files absolutely destroy performance. Backblaze backs up in file size order, small files first. Please do NOT judge the performance or worry or even look at it for a couple days after initial install. ![]() The good news is the free trial lasts 14 days, and you do not give Backblaze a credit card to run the free trial so you are safe to just try it out! However, there is no way you can get that all the time, so realistically I would estimate 5 - 6 days to upload 14 TBytes. It can vary, but the client can “peak” at 1 Gbit/sec, which is 10 TBytes per day. Disclaimer: I worked at Backblaze for more than 16 years and wrote a lot of the Personal Backup client.
